Turtle Nest Relocation from Close Point Causeway due to Road Paving, Gore's Landing

A message from Joan Norris: (email her directly if interested - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

I am coming back to Ontario from Aug. 1st to 4th with the purpose of digging up and relocating the nests. This is NOT the best thing for the turtles but it is much better than the alternative, which is certain death for up to 2000 developing baby turtles. Some of the nests will go to a newly created turtle nesting habitat at the Black Oak Savannah in Alderville. The rest will go to the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (a.k.a. the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre) where they will be incubated, overwintered and released in the spring to maximize their chances of survival.

We need all the help we can get!! We want to do this right this time, which will take time and patience. The work can start Tuesday evening, with small groups working over the next few days, hopefully finishing on Thursday. Any and all help you can give during this time would be appreciated. Help can come in different ways. For example, we need drivers to transport eggs to OTTC and people to help plant nests at the Black Oak site. On behalf of myself and all those little baby turtles we're gonna save, a great big THANK YOU!!
