Speaker: David Bree

Topic: The 8th Continent – Madagascar

Isolated for 70 million years, Madagascar has often been called the 8th Continent for the many unique and endemic species that have evolved there. Fully 80% of every living thing found on the island is found nowhere else. Ontario Park Naturalists, David and Yvette Bree, recently spent 3 weeks on the island, seeking out birds, lemurs, chameleons and other natural treasures. David will present his impressions on the natural and cultural features of the 8th Continent.

Joe will present an introduction to the reptiles and amphibians of Northumberland, as well as an overview of the threats that they face. He is the Herpetology Species at Risk Specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Directions: Take Cty. Rd. 45 north to Beagle Club Road. Turn left on Beagle Club Road and follow signs to ski trail parking.

There are three Christmas Bird Counts held in Northumberland County. Below are the dates and the contacts for those who would like to participate. Feeder counts are welcomed. Contact the coordinators to make sure that your feeder is within the count circle and to determine how best to report your count.
