Helping to Save Birds

The Presqu'ile Lighthouse Centre

On Sept 26th, 2024, Willow Beach Field Naturalists was excited to donate and install Feather Friendly® bird collision prevention markers at the Presqu’ile Lighthouse Centre. This system of small white dots applied to the exterior of reflective windows, is endorsed by FLAP Canada and has been proven effective for preventing fatal bird collisions.

The problem with glass

When birds see windows, they don’t see the glass. During daylight they can only see the reflection of foliage and sky, and in darkness they are attracted to the light behind the windows. Sadly, millions of birds die each year from colliding with glass. WBFN hopes that this new installation will help to protect the birds we love, and inspire others to install similar protective measures for their windows at home.
